Brief About How to make Churma

blog

Churma is traditionally enjoyed with ghee and served alongside Dal Baati, but you can also relish it as a standalone sweet dish. The combination of the coarse wheat flour, ghee, and sweet jaggery or sugar gives Churma its unique taste and texture, making it a delightful treat for those with a sweet tooth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coarsely ground wheat flour (coarse wheat flour is preferable, but you can also use regular wheat flour)
  • 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup powdered jaggery or sugar (adjust according to your taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • Chopped nuts (such as almonds, cashews, and pistachios) for garnishing (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat a pan or kadhai over medium heat and add the ghee to it. Allow the ghee to melt completely.

  2. Add the wheat flour to the melted ghee and mix well. Keep stirring continuously to ensure even browning and to prevent burning. Roast the wheat flour in ghee until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. This process may take around 15-20 minutes.

  3. Once the wheat flour is roasted, remove the pan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  4. Transfer the roasted wheat flour to a large mixing bowl. Add the powdered jaggery or sugar and cardamom powder to it. Mix everything well.

  5. Take a small portion of the mixture in your hand and press it together. If it holds its shape, the mixture is ready. If it crumbles, you can add a little more melted ghee to it and mix again.

  6. Once the mixture is ready, you can shape it into small round balls or laddoos by pressing it tightly in your palm. You can also use a mold to give it a decorative shape if you prefer.

  7. Garnish the Churma with chopped nuts if desired. You can press the chopped nuts onto the Churma balls or roll the balls in the nuts for added flavor and texture.
