Brief About How to Make Paratha
Paratha is a popular Indian flatbread that is enjoyed with various curries, chutneys, or as a standalone dish. It can be made plain or stuffed with a variety of fillings. Here's a brief guide on how to make parathas:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- Water (as needed)
- Salt (to taste)
- Ghee or oil (for cooking)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
- Slowly add water to the flour and knead it into a soft and smooth dough. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry. Adjust the water quantity accordingly.
- Once the dough is formed, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This resting time helps in making the parathas soft and pliable.
- After resting, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. You can make them bigger or smaller depending on your preference.
- Take one dough ball and dust it with flour. Roll it out into a thin circular shape using a rolling pin. If it sticks to the rolling surface, sprinkle more flour.
- Brush some ghee or oil on the rolled-out dough. This will make the paratha flaky and flavorful.
- Now, start pleating the dough from one end and bring it towards the center, forming a spiral-like shape. Tuck the end underneath to secure the pleats.
- Once again, dust the pleated dough with flour and roll it out gently into a circular shape. Take care not to apply too much pressure as it might break the pleats.
- Heat a tawa or a flat griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled-out paratha on the tawa and cook it for a minute or until small bubbles start to appear on the surface.
- Flip the paratha and cook the other side for another minute. Apply ghee or oil on this side as well.
- Continue flipping and cooking the paratha until both sides are golden brown and cooked properly.
- Remove the paratha from the tawa and place it on a plate. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the parathas hot with your favorite curries, chutneys, or pickles.
