Brief About How to Make Paratha

blog

Paratha is a popular Indian flatbread that is enjoyed with various curries, chutneys, or as a standalone dish. It can be made plain or stuffed with a variety of fillings. Here's a brief guide on how to make parathas:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • Water (as needed)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Ghee or oil (for cooking)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  2. Slowly add water to the flour and knead it into a soft and smooth dough. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry. Adjust the water quantity accordingly.
  3. Once the dough is formed, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This resting time helps in making the parathas soft and pliable.
  4. After resting, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. You can make them bigger or smaller depending on your preference.
  5. Take one dough ball and dust it with flour. Roll it out into a thin circular shape using a rolling pin. If it sticks to the rolling surface, sprinkle more flour.
  6. Brush some ghee or oil on the rolled-out dough. This will make the paratha flaky and flavorful.
  7. Now, start pleating the dough from one end and bring it towards the center, forming a spiral-like shape. Tuck the end underneath to secure the pleats.
  8. Once again, dust the pleated dough with flour and roll it out gently into a circular shape. Take care not to apply too much pressure as it might break the pleats.
  9. Heat a tawa or a flat griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled-out paratha on the tawa and cook it for a minute or until small bubbles start to appear on the surface.
  10. Flip the paratha and cook the other side for another minute. Apply ghee or oil on this side as well.
  11. Continue flipping and cooking the paratha until both sides are golden brown and cooked properly.
  12. Remove the paratha from the tawa and place it on a plate. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
  13. Serve the parathas hot with your favorite curries, chutneys, or pickles.
